To begin the year in 3rd grade students will be connecting with our Social Studies unit: Immigration - Joining our Community and will be reading historical fiction. Students will study the elements of historical fiction especially focusing on the characters, setting, and time. Here is a book list for recommended 3rd grade historical fiction titles. Students have always enjoyed learning about history through a fictional story.
In writer's workshop students will begin the year focusing on writing personal narratives, stories of their lives. Students will learn how to find and choose ideas to write about, create interesting stories, and publish on their blogfolios.
We encourage students to write at home, possibly in a journal, letters/emails to friends and family members, blog posts, help make shopping lists, and more!
