Dear 4th Grade parents,
It's hard to believe that we're down to the last 2 weeks of school. So much important learning will still be taking place and we wanted to ask for your help with an exciting project.
In Science, we are studying energy. In this unit, students are learning about the different sources and forms of energy, as well as how energy produces changes and impacts our daily lives. As part of this unit, students will be given a construction challenge in which they need to plan, design, and build a holiday card that includes a simple electrical circuit.
We'll be using the LS studio space to build these cards during the last week of school (Dec. 7-10). We'll be providing most of the materials that students need, including the cables, conductive thread and tape, light-bulbs, batteries, battery holders, as well as some craft materials, such as colored paper and glue. Each student's card will be unique, and depending on what they design, theymay need some specific materials that we don't have (for example: buttons, stickers, felt, pipe cleaners, etc.). We'd appreciate your support in helping your child find the extra materials they may need. You can check with your child this Friday when they bring home with their design plan. Please support them in bringing in everything that they need for Monday, December 7th.
Apart from those extra materials, we ask that each child bring a shoebox to school so that they can keep all their materials well-organized during the building sessions.
As well, we would love to have some extra hands in the studio to help with all this creative work. If you are available to support us as a volunteer for a 2 hour block during any of the mornings or afternoons next week (Dec. 7-10), please let us know as soon as you can.
Thanks so much for your continued support.
Sincerely,
The 4th Grade Team
