With More Freedom Comes Greater Responsibility!

Curriculum Corner

Hey Fourth Grade, did you know that you have the power to choose? I wonder, when you think about freedom and responsibility, what kind of things are going on in your head?

Every day we are faced with choices, and each choice we make has a different outcome. When we make personal or group choices, our actions have the power to bring ourselves and others UP, or just as equally, DOWN.

Students, think about how you want to be remembered as Fourth Graders. Our actions have the POWER to influence others in positive ways - in class, at lunch, during recess, or at home. Together, we can make a difference in other people's lives.

Literacy
Students continue to work on their trade and economy books. We are moving into specific research about trade and economy in Brazil. Students are learning to cite sources and add details from their research into their information book. We will also be gathering information (quotes and details) from parent speakers for our book. Review the following presentations about text features and text structures. I wonder, in what ways do we use them in information writing?

Math
Students are continuing to learn all about division; the various methods to solve division, interpreting remainders, and how we use division in our daily lives! Here is a link to a Khan Academy video that highlights some basic division methods. Also, take a look at the following music videos to help learn the steps to long division. Students, continue to sharpen your skills by practicing your math facts and by playing the following math games. In addition, this week students will continue to explore identifying and measuring angles, as well as using coordinate grids to map and locate points of references. Check out these helpful videos!

Units of Study
Students continue their learning about trade and economy. We are moving into looking and learning about trade and economy through the lens of Brazil. Students are getting excited to welcome some of our parent speakers who will share their knowledge and help students make connections. Students will get to see trade in action with our field trip to Santos that is coming up soon! Take the time to review the vocabulary below and continue to develop your understanding of the concepts related to trade and economy.
