News from the Library

The end of the school year is rapidly approaching. The time has flown by! We are working to get the library ready for the end of the year and would greatly appreciate your help in getting all materials returned. We currently have 1,665 items checked out to students, parents, and staff. Of those, 618 items are currently overdue. We do have to apologize that our automated overdue notices were not all being delivered the past couple of months. There was a problem with the system settings, but we believe the emails are now being delivered successfully to most families. 

All library resources are due June 2. Please help your children to look for missing items. We will consider items not returned by June 2 lost and will send out fine notices. Fees for materials not returned or paid for will be added to your son or daughter's tuition fees. 

Students who have everything turned in will have the option of checking out books for the vacation (up to 10 books total per family) on their last library class of the year. News From the Library!

Happy New Year from the LS Library! Please stop by to check out books, magazines, audiobooks, and DVDs or to learn more about our online resources. If you haven't set up a parent account yet for accessing our online magazines, books, etc., you're welcome to do that any time.

In February, we're celebrating Love Your Library Month and World Read Aloud Day. We are so incredibly lucky to be at a wonderful school, with access to almost limitless reading material. World Read Aloud Day (on February 16) is about celebrating all of the books surrounding us, and the joy of reading them aloud together! It's also about raising awareness of the 758 million adults worldwide who lack basic reading and writing skills and the 59 million primary age children who are not in school (UNESCO, 2016).

We hope you read with your children every day, but please make a special point on February 16 to read together (age doesn't matter)! Talk about all of the things in your life that you are able to do because of reading and writing. Literacy impacts virtually every aspect of our lives. Consider discussing ways your family can help those who do not have the access to education and resources that we do. Most importantly, share a love of reading!

News from the Library

Students have been working hard to return all of their books, so they can check out for the summer break! Please return any books that you have checked out, as well. Children may check out the regular limit for their grade, plus parents may check out 10 books. Please encourage your children to have a special, safe place for their library books. Don't forget we also have a number of digital resources available for you. Log into our lower school library to see links and passwords to our online subscriptions. (Use your own username and password, if you've set that up. You can log in as graded; password: graded, if you have not.) Read or listen to books from Tumblebooks or Bookflix, catch up on the latest magazines, or watch fun educational videos on Brainpop. You might also enjoy the Screen Actors' Guild's free children's literacy site: http://www.storylineonline.net/. Famous actors have recorded videos of themselves reading excellent children's books. Most importantly, read, read, read (and have fun doing it)!
