3rd Graders Visit the Sao Paulo Immigration Museum
Slowly students got off the bus and were directed into the train station for a steam locomotive ride. We experienced how immigrants first arrived into Sao Paulo and got to see many old trains being restored for a future train museum. Students were visiting the Museu de Imigração do Estado de São Paulo in the neighborhood of Brás. From 1887 to 1978, this building hosted immigrants from other countries and other parts of Brazil that came to São Paulo in search of work and opportunity. We all had a great morning learning about what it was like for so many immigrants arriving into Sao Paulo before most of them went to work on coffee farms.
