HOMEWORK - Unique Brazil: Calling All Researchers!

Let the Research Begin... Becoming experts in the different regions of Brazil

Grade 4, are you ready to become experts in your chosen region?! Here is your task...

During the next two weeks, you will be researchers, gathering important information about your region in order to teach new teachers and students about Brazil.

For homework, you will continue to gather information to help answer the different key idea questions on your My Region of Brazil - Note-Taking Template that is shared in your drive. 

Be sure to use the Unique Brazil Resources to help you in your research. You also have a copy of the resources in your drive.

Take a look at the list of students researching the same region as you - work with each other to help gather and make sense of the information.

Reading Strategies

Practice the following reading strategies while you research:

• Determine the importance of the information of at least 3-4 important facts
• Summarize and paraphrase the information on your note-taking template
• Scan for keywords, or important words, to help you make sense of the information - examples of keywords would be: geography, land, North, Southeast, etc.

Ms. Arcenas says, "Use your time wisely!" - The timeline has been updated!

Although we will be researching during our Units of Study blocks, be sure to follow the research schedule below to help organize your time at home. Please be aware that the timeline may change depending on your needs.

September 14

• What are the geographical features of my region?

September 15

• How does the geography of my region affect human life?
• What are the human features of my region?

September 16

• What are the natural resources in my region?
• In what ways did the resources found in my region attract people to live there?

September 17

• What are the industries and main products in my region?

September 18

• How do humans affect the environment of my region?
• Use the information from Human-Environment Interaction (Exploring Brazil text) to make connections to your region

September 19-20

• Add additional information and images to the questions previously researched

September 21

• What is the culture unique to my region?
• What is the wildlife or tourism unique to my region? (choose one only)
• Review the "Banco de Fotos - Regiões do Brasil" in your drive for examples of culture and tourism

September 22

• Add any additional information and images to the questions previously researched

September 23

• Add any additional information and images to the questions previously researched
• Begin to insert the information into your Google slide presentation

September 24

• Carefully review my comments on your note-taking template
• Add and/or revise information, including images, to the questions previously researched
• Continue to insert the information into your Google slide presentation

September 25

• Carefully review my comments on your note-taking template
• Add and/or revise information, including images, to the questions previously researched
• Compare your information with a peer who is researching the same region
• Finish inserting the information, including your images into your Google slide presentation
• How will you introduce and conclude your presentation?

September 26-27

• Finish inserting the information, including your images into your Google slide presentation
• How will you introduce and conclude your presentation?

September 28

• Cite your sources in your "Citing Your Sources" document according to what you learned with Ms. Zeidenberg; cite your source only once
• Revise and edit your entire presentation - ask yourself the following questions
• Do I have the appropriate language conventions?
• Is my font clear and easy to read? Is my font consistent throughout my presentation?
• Are my images appropriate and easy to see?

September 29

• Cite your sources in your Google slide presentation according to what you learned with Ms. Zeidenberg; cite each source only once
• Revise and edit your entire presentation - ask yourself the following questions
• Do I have the appropriate language conventions?
• Is my font clear and easy to read? Is my font consistent throughout my presentation?
• Are my images appropriate and easy to see?

September 30

• Compare your presentation to the Unique Brazil Rubric (shared on your drive) - have you included everything?
• Rehearse orally your presentation with someone at home - use the rubric to assess your communication skills
• Complete for Friday your final CSI specific to your region - review the following blog post (Heading -"Coming Full Circle"); be sure to use the provided index card

October 1
