Unique Brazil... Making Connections Using Metaphors

The Power of Thinking Routines

Hey Grade 4! You are definitely CSI's in the making...

CSI (color-symbol-image) is a thinking routine that helps us synthesize and organize our ideas through the use of metaphors (comparisons).

Take a look at the following CSI's that show what students already know about Brazil. I wonder, in what ways could our thinking change and deepen over the course of our Unit of Study, Unique Brazil?

Think about all the learning that has taken place so far. I wonder, what other connections could we make to the CSI's below? What other connections could you make to your CSI?

Josefina's CSI

Brody's CSI

Anika's CSI

Pedro's CSI

Ana Lucia's CSI

Coming Full Circle - Complete for Friday, October 2nd

At the end of our Unique Brazil unit of study, we will create a new CSI specific to the region you have been researching.

I wonder, what deeper connections could you make to the color, symbol and image you decide to choose?

Be sure to title your final CSI with the name of your region - for example, Unique Brazil: The North

Unique Brazil Vocabulary

As we begin researching into the specific regions of Brazil, make connections to our vocabulary words to help better understand what they mean. Remember to show and not tell each word's definition!

Sharing our thinking... Assembly - Thursday, September 17th

Sharing our thinking helps us to understand and appreciate different perspectives, and allows us to make other connections to our own thinking.

During this Thursday's assembly, some students will be sharing their initial CSI's. Together, we can make our thinking visible!
