What's New in Grade 4

Curriculum Corner

Fourth Grade has taken a new turn in their learning journey. We are learning about being scientists and essayists. Parents, please take the time to ask your child what new learning has taken place in his/her different subjects.

Literacy

Students are reading and analyzing sophisticated literature in book clubs.  Students spend time reading, analyzing text, and discussing with their group the intricacies of the story. Students also began a new unit in Writing. Students will be busy gathering ideas for good opinion essays.

Math

This week we will be finishing up Unit 3 in Math and will be taking the unit test on Thursday, October 15th. Please encourage your child to continue practicing multiplication and division facts even beyond this unit. Knowing these facts are the foundation to understanding future concepts students will encounter as mathematicians. Students, sharpen your skills by playing math games.

Units of Study

Students are looking into the states of matter. They are performing various experiments to see different substances move through the states of matter. Take a look at the following Bill Nye, the Science Guy video about matter.

Durante essa semana, finalizaremos os textos informativos e iniciaremos a preparação de apresentações sobre cada local visitado nas viagens. Nessa etapa do projeto, os alunos terão a oportunidade usar as ferramentas do Google Pesentation para elaborar suas apresentações. Em nossa oficina de escrita, continuaremos o trabalho com a revisão e edição dos textos informativos escritos em classe.

PAL

Students in Dona Dani's class will start working on their presentation. They will work on the slides, inserting images and credits.

Students in Dona Nati’s class will continue the shared class reading of  O Hambúrguer era de Carneiro and read, independently at home, the books from our class library that will be reported on Friday, during our classes. Student will turn their Viagem Pelo Mundo projects into Google Presentations during this week, preparing for the presentation day, when all 4th graders will share their projects.
