Curriculum Corner
Fourth Grade has taken on the identifies of scientists and essayists. We have had the opportunity to collaborate with Mr. Prophet's 7th Grade Science classes to learn more about matter. In addition, we have had visiting author, Kristy Dempsey, share with us about where writer's get their ideas.
Parents, please take the time to ask your child what new learning has taken place in his/her different subjects.
Use the following resources to help guide your discussions with your child:
Literacy
Students continue to read and analyze sophisticated literature in book clubs. Students are engaging in free writing activities. From their freewrites or flash drafts, students will mine their work for fresh and new ideas for their opinion pieces.
Math
This coming week we will begin Unit 4 in math. Unit 4 begins the study of decimals up to the thousandths place. Students will learn how to read, order, compare, add, and subtract decimals. In addition, students will continue to practice using the metric system to measure up to the nearest millimeter. Look for the family letter coming home next week! Students, sharpen your skills by playing math games.

This coming week students will continue to look into the different changes in matter. They will be conducting experiments to observe changes in the states of matter when heat is applied to various objects. Nossa unidade Viagens pelo mundo está chegando ao fim e, como fechamento, nossos alunos irão apresentar, para seus colegas, os resultados de suas pesquisas. Sendo assim, nos dias 21 e 22/10, iniciaremos as apresentações dos trabalhos em classe.
PAL
Students in Dona Dani's class will create the presentation of a place they have traveled to. They have been working hard and are excited to share their research with their classmates.
On Monday and Tuesday, students in Dona Nati’s class are practicing for their oral presentations about the Viagens pelo Mundo project, that are happening this Wednesday and Thursday, during our Portuguese classes. At the same time, students are editing their informative texts to add features that hook readers’ attention. On Friday, students will report their independent book reading for the week. Check what the enthusiastic readers’ books are on our PAL tab.
Important Dates
- Group C Assembly (Ms. Macden's Class) - Thursday, October 22nd
- Halloween Celebrations - Friday, October 30th. Please look for the Pumpkin Math letter coming home this week. Your child's teacher will email you with details regarding parties.
