The Number Devil. The 2nd Night. Exponents.

Readers from both Ms Sanchez and Ms Kitto's classes already read chapter 2, The Second Night. 

They first worked on new vocabulary using our new word diagrams as shown on the picture.

Then they reviewed strategies to find main ideas and supporting details when the headings and subheadings don´t help or are misleading the reader, like rewording the heading to reflect the big idea or what that part is mostly about.

To extend what we are learning from their reading, students are working on pages 214, 217, 276 of the math journal. All unfinished class work will be completed as homework. Please, do not forget to bring back your math journal to school tomorrow.
Some students volunteered to research about questions that came up during our class discussion:

  • Why are there so many symbols to represent division and multiplication and just one for adding or subtracting?
  • Is Zero an odd or an even number? Why? 
  • Can decimal numbers be negative?
  • Can fractions be negative? 
  • How to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
