The Candy Store Project @Sanchez and Kitto - Area

What are polygons anyway, and how can you find their areas? Ask your grade 5 to show you how to find the area of polygons, like triangles, trapezoids, and parallelograms. First, you’ll learn how to find the area of squares and rectangles. Then, you’ll discover a new twist to finding the area of other parallelograms and their altitudes. Your child will also walk you through some great examples of area problems and help you discover all of the formulas that make finding the area of different shapes easy.

Who knew you could learn geometry without getting a headache?

To explore the relationship between perimeter and area, students can also play Square off, and watch  Area of Polygons - BrainPOP or Perimeter & area (video) | Area | Khan Academy.

Our class worked today on plotting the sign of their candy shop and on the following MJ pages: 304, 305 309,310.
