We are so happy to be back in class working on Math! In December, we began our unit on place value of whole numbers and decimals. We are now extending those previous lessons on the base-ten place value system of whole numbers to decimals through thousandths. Students are reading, writing, comparing, and ordering these numbers. Through hands-on activities we are providing opportunities for the students to use large whole numbers and decimals in real-life contexts. How can you help at home? A couple of ideas:
- Write decimals for your child to read aloud, such as 0.32 (thirty-two hundredths) or 0.9 (nine-tenths).
- Write down two 4, 5, or 6 digit numbers. Ask your child to tell which is larger and explain why. Try a few more and switch roles!
- Have fun reviewing these skills with your child!
