News Report - Math Project

Fifth graders enjoyed this creative, exciting, and stimulating project in writing as they create authentic news stories. As they were transformed into reporters and film editors, they became effective users of ICT in order to publish their own classroom news program. Various aspects of current math unit were also covered in a more meaningful way:

• Use fraction to show fractional parts of a whole
• Order and compare fractions
• Convert between fractions and decimals and percent
• Use calculators to convert among the three notations
• Represent percentage data on a pie chart
• Construct bar graphs and circle graphs based on class data
• Developing, conducting, and analyzing a survey
