We will learn how to think productively about the unknown. After we tackle models and expand our points of view and ways of thinking about systems, we will become engineers who design and create products. We will be designing and building carts from sticks, paper clips, wire, rubber bands, and the like. With each passing investigation students face more demanding engineering challenges, and teachers expect to see a lot of creativity brought to bear on the problems.
Our first assignment is to plan and design an invention, practicing the processes of gathering evidence, sharing ideas with peers, creating models, and modifying them based on additional evidence are the same.
Students are working on groups to prepare a project proposal for April 10th following the same guidelines. If approved by our Science Assembly (the class) they will have the opportunity to build it in the Maker Space we are organizing at school (TBT) and present the final model to our Graded Community during a Grade 5 STEAM fair. Students are using a Rubric to guide their work.
