Students in Ms Sanchez and Ms Kitto class read chapter 5 today in class. They read about Robert telling to his mother he won't sleep at all on that night. But, eventually, he felt asleep. This night, the Number Devil taught about triangles. He also tells a method to solve addition of numbers from 1 to 12 very easily.1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10+11+12=13+13+13+13+13+13=13x6=78.
Students are choosing one of the following questions to answer in their Writing Journal.
- Number Devil Theorem 3: (page 98) “Pick a number, any number, and I can show you that it is the sum of either two or three triangle numbers." Show at least three examples that work for this theorem… Example: 51=15+36
- Explain how to use triangle numbers to help you quickly find the sum of the numbers from:
- 1 - 5:
- 1 - 9:
- 1 - 14:
- 1 - 17:
- 1 - 20:
- On page 103 the Number Devil poses a challenge. Copy the figure and extend it three more boxes (so that there are 15 squares in that section.)
- Write 5 sentences about something interesting you learned in this in this chapter.
- Triangular Numbers extended: List the first 20 triangle numbers then describe the pattern.
- Without listing out all the numbers, can you determine what the
100th triangle number would be? Explain. - Triangular Numbers: Draw “coconuts” to show how Robert and the number devil came up with the first 6 triangular numbers.
